The Walpole to Denmark area is perfect for those who want to simply get out and
explore. It’s a region replete with natural wonders, from beaches to forests to
spectacular granite outcrops.
Walkers will find any number of possibilities to satisfy their wanderlust, even
more so during the wildflower season. With temperatures dropping to more confortable
levels for hikers, the region starts to bloom in September, with Wilson’s Head the
destination of choice for orchid lovers. Bottle brushes are abundant in Quarram Nature
Reserve, west of Denmark, while William Bay and Mt Lindesay national parks both have
wide varieties of flora to admire.
The Valley of the Giants, also west of Denmark, is home to the State’s impressive
tingle trees, a tall-growth forest that’s best experienced from the Tree Top Walk that takes
you through the wooded canopy.
If you’re more inclined to rest your legs, however, the 4WD options in the area take
some beating. The more confident and experienced offroaders can treat themselves to a
run along the Bornholm and Dunsky tracks, both of which can be found in the West Cape
Howe National Park, a full day’s trip from Denmark that culminates in views of the Cape’s
astonishing dolerite cliffs.
And if you hope to catch a fish or two, the conflux of the Walpole and Nornalup inlets
is a hotspot for anglers, the mouth of the inlet home to large varieties like black bream.
With exquisite wildflowers, exhilarating walks and
exceptional woodland, the Walpole to Denmark
region is filled with reasons to explore
